 A fully articulated bryozoa fossil stone specimen, free from any matrix, in a letter 'L' shape. Very lightly coated with protective varnish to bring out color and detail.

SEA FLOOR MATRIX WITH BRYOZOA CLUSTER

Various fossils including large bryozoa, brachiopod shells, crinoid stems, prehistoric clams, fossil algae & more. Hand collected & cleaned from Southwestern Ohio Valley USA; Appalachian Basin, Cincinnatian Layer. Supports on included footed 4" brass display stand. A good deal of hand work has gone into creating an item that will be clean & attractive in your home. After collecting the mud & moss covered stone I cleaned it, being careful to preserve the details of the fossils. One side has been carefully coated with layers of clear polyurethane type varnish to create a pleasing surface that exposes detail with a "wet" look. The reverse side has been left in the natural state to show the varied colors of fossil algae & ancient mineral stains. Rare large bryzoa, sometimes thought to be branch coral, are partially articulated & include lovely cross cut areas that expose the inside of these branching ocean animal colonies. Examination with a jewelers loupe will reveal even more of the story this fragment has to offer!
