DISCOVER THE MAGICK WITHIN!

Hello, your friendly Mystic Griffin webmaster here to welcome you. Though I do consider myself to be a mystic of sorts, I am not the mystic griffin of the site. Learn more about our griffin below on this page, or click, Griffins & Dragons. Updates & additions are on going so please stop by often. Comments and suggestions are welcomed. Let me know how I may improve your visit. Though this site is mainly Pagan, all forms of spirituality & metaphysics are invited. We don't claim to be experts -- just folks who have the desire to create & share. You are invited to submit your own writing, as well. See Information for Writers Page to learn more.

Being actually two sites in one, Mystic Griffin has much to offer both the shopper and spiritual seeker alike. You'll find seperate sections for fine art and for New-Age occult interests. You are invited to step onto the front porch, grab a seat, and visit for a spell. Here you'll find a casual, eclectic environment. The goal is to re-create the atmosphere of teaching, learning and sharing, here on the Internet, that my husband and myself have in our own home. It's our hope to encourage spiritual growth, enlightenment, and to artistically express matters of the human condition. We offer the gifts of community and sharing knowledge, so welcome guests with an open mind and heart. "To learn, to know, to share, to grow"  - Four Vows of the Mystic, by Tree

Formerly Columbus Ohio (USA) based abstract expressionist and musician James Pruitt, and Visionary artist Tree Pruitt, offer here some of our varied creations. We often create gallery quality metaphysical crafts, fine art works and hand crafted and beaded jewelry. Together we have well over 50 years combined experience in Native American, Wiccan, the arts and occult studies. We follow the lead of what we feel we are guided to create. Being so ruled by our Muse, our own hand crafted offerings change on a regular basis. We only craft spiritual items when in a positive, ritual mind set, proper Moon phase, and we apply our experience to our arts. Many items are one of a kind!

About Griffin and Dragon

Though  I do consider myself to be a mystic of sorts, I am not the mystic griffin of the site. It's not a name of any person associated with the site. The griffin is a symbol.

The use of "griffin" is in reference to the mythical creature. As a word griffin has many spellings including... gryphon, griffen, griffin, griffon, griffyn, griphon, gryffen, gryffin, gryffon, gryphen, gryphin, and on. I chose to use the griffin as a symbol for my personal website for several reasons, among them the strong character the griffin is known to portray. Readers can learn more about the griffin as a symbol and spirit guide at my Squidoo lens on the subject, (link will be here soon), and there's also some information below.

Myself and my husband James, (who also contributes to the site), do see the griffin as a spirit guide or totem animal for ourselves, but the connection goes a little deeper for myself. The noble griffin stands as a most prominent symbol on the family crest of my maiden name. In addition, I've always held an affection for the griffin as some children do horses or dragons. Indeed the griffin is very like a dragon in that it tends to hoard treasure. The main differences between dragons and griffins can be seen from a spiritual or metaphysical perspective, and not in the body form, really.
The dragon hides his gold deep inside the heart of the mountain in many tales. The heart of the mountain represents both the center of the Earth and the center of you -- the Self; as in the phrase, "getting to the heart of the matter". The treasure a dragon guards in the inward darkness is a symbol for all of the potential inside you, good and bad, that is yet to be released; your personal treasures, and like the core of a volcano they can be destructive if released too suddenly or all at once. It's generally best, in stories, to leave the dragon sleeping and take the treasure when he's less aware; safer by far when he's sleeping. If a seeker can make it out of the fearful dark mountain tunnel, into the reasonable light of day, the treasure is his to keep.

The griffin, however, literally lives on the other side of the story board. High atop the mountain the griffin weaves his nest; it's safe up there to hide another sort of gold. A seeker can reach the nest, though the journey is very hard and filled with peril, (as with the dragon too -- it's the Hero's Journey that Joseph Campbell and George Lukas told us of). The mountain top represents what you perceive to be outside yourself; gods and goals, and you must know something of the path to make the journey to the top. In the nest is your spiritual gold; knowledge of humanity and the Collective, (Akashic Record). This gold is for you if you can get to it, just like the dragon, but this gold is also for everyone else for you must bring it back down to share; it's the only way the griffin will let you have it, and it can be a heavy burden to carry. The griffin is known in stories to tear apart those who seek it's nest, and indeed even unwary travelers passing by. In some tales of old the griffin can be reasoned with or approached similar to the Egyptian Sphinx, for a griffin will talk to a seeker. Some may say dragons are able to speak too but they rarely do so as they'd rather not be bothered with human cares; the dragon is of the Earth. The griffin is of the Spirit, and despite itself it wants you to take some of the treasure. Unlike the vast inner realm of the dragon, the griffin is limited to the circle of the nest to hold spiritual knowledge down to Earth. If a seeker takes some away the griffin knows he really isn't harmed. Now there's room for new treasure; more gold because the griffin is really a seeker too, just as earthbound as we. Knowledge grows upon itself and is intended to be used. The light of awareness brings warmth to the griffin's golden eggs in that nest on high. It will give birth to wisdom of the worlds, whereas the dragon broods wisdom of the Self.

So I bid you a fond welcome to my home on the web where my goal is to always be honoring the mystic griffin. I share my gold with you and together our treasures will grow.

Why Do You Do This?

So what's the deal with this place? What's it all about?

The answer is YOU ... and me. I get this stuff out of my brain and you get it into yours.

My husband and myself are both artists and philosophical cerebrial types, (we're thinkers). It makes for a lot of creative byproduct when he and I get to chatting about the world(s). We suppose, we chase down concepts, and make something of the results -- be it fine art, music, or writing. Then we have to DO something with it all. This site is our space for sharing. You can purchase some of the results of our labors -- hold them in your hands. We'll gladly exchange energies in that way! There is another way to exchange energies, though, that can't be touched. That's through sharing knowledge and experience. The Higher Powers, Gods -- or Whatever you'd like to call It -- have placed us in a situation where we have many spiritual experiences and the ability to share the knowledge we gain. We're not experts by degree, but we do have well over 50 years of combined hands on experience with the occult, the mind, and Native American studies. As I'm fond of saying ... together we learn and grow!
I've always had the habit of thinking too much. As a child I would wonder about my environment. My thought wanderings ran, (and still do), from atoms to Zeus. I asked questions about how the world worked. When I'm not given an answer that satisfies my curiosity I quest on my own. When I do find answers my excitement makes it impossible not to tell others. Since I was a pre-teen I've collected stacks of scraps with notes scribbled on them and nearly mountains of papers and files! This site gives me the opportunity to put them all in one place while adding my husbands thinking and arts to my own.
Over the years I've been able to verify information and theories I'd developed on my own and found them to be quite sound and true. Along the way I've discovered that one thing is very often another. For example ...  nothing -- no thing -- can exist outside of the realm of physics. Everything IS physics in some manner. So by understanding and exploring physics as a common science much can be learned about the so called METAphysical, (still physics), realm. One thing leads into another just like the layers on a spiral or the petals on a lotus flower, and we can learn spiritual benefit from everything.
This site is, in truth, my personal project. It's a collection of the devotion of a lifetime to spiritual and artistic pursuit. All spiritual and philosophical paths have value. I've been placed in a situation in life where I am free to develop concepts with deep contemplation . I feel as if it is my duty to offer the results of my explorations to my fellow humans. I happen to find a greater personal truth within paganism and the use of natural energies, or witchcraft, and so that interest is reflected on my website.

I do this -- putting the site together and all it involves -- simply because I want to and because I almost feel as if I need to do it. I do my best to follow my dharma.  -- Tree, the webmistress

* About Using Bones, Antler, & Fur In Our Magkical Tools

A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE USE OF ANIMAL PARTS

When we wear or make items of the parts of animals who have died, we honor their energy by putting it to good use and acknowledging the sacrifice made. A small amount of energy remains always within hide, bone, antler, & such. It’s not a personal energy, per say, rather an archetypal force. You wouldn’t have a claw, say, from "George the wolf", but would hold the energy pattern of the attributes of all wolves. So that is why we include such items within our magickal tools. It’s a lovingly added resource, not just decoration. We utilize them with honor, love, and respect.

Animal based products are obtained from a variety of methods. Many of our resources come from reclaimed, vintage clothing. Some animals may have passed from natural causes, such as age or predation, allowing us to collect and prepare the remains for use. We also order some items from government sanctioned culling programs where procedes benefit overall wildlife health. We do not harm animals in order to create any object we offer for sale. Some animal products may not be legal to own in your state, though we try to use those that are legal in most. International restrictions may also apply, so if in doubt check it out in your local area.
